How do I use the cube timer and what do ao5 and ao12 mean?

Scramble your cube with the moves shown, hold the space bar (or the timer on a phone) until it turns green, let go to start, and press any key to stop. ao5 averages your last five solves without the best and worst.

Step by step

  1. Open the cube timer.
  2. Hold your cube with white on top and green in front, and do the scramble.
  3. Hold the space bar (or press and hold the timer) until it turns green.
  4. Let go to start, solve, then press any key or tap to stop.
  5. Tick 15-second inspection to practise like a competition. Your times and averages are saved on this device.

Questions and fixes

What are +2 and DNF?

With inspection on, starting between 15 and 17 seconds adds 2 seconds; later is DNF (did not finish). You can also mark any time as +2 or DNF yourself.

My work has gone, or isn’t there on another computer

Your times is saved in this browser on this device only – nothing is stored with us, so we can’t get it back for you. It won’t appear in a different browser, on another device, or in a private (incognito) window, and clearing your browser’s history or “site data” deletes it. Some school computers clear everything when you log off.
