Connect 4 vs computer setup screen: choose Easy, Medium or Hard and who goes first
Choose a level and who goes first.
  • Easy. The computer doesn’t plan ahead. It takes a win when it sees one and usually blocks your lines of three, but it misses traps. Ideal for children, first-timers and a relaxed game.
  • Medium. It always blocks an obvious line of three and grabs a win when it sees one. A good everyday challenge.
  • Hard. It looks many moves ahead and plays close to perfectly. Beating it takes real strategy.

Tips for beating the computer

A game against the Medium computer.
  1. Go first and play the middle column. With perfect play, the first player who starts in the centre can always win.
  2. Watch the diagonals. Most beginner losses come from a diagonal line that wasn’t spotted.
  3. Make two threats at once. The computer can only block one.
  4. Don’t fill a space just below your opponent’s winning spot. That gives them the move they need.
