2-Look OLL
Full OLL has 57 cases. 2-look OLL gets the same result, a whole yellow top, in two steps using just 10 algorithms. It is the first thing most people learn after the beginner’s method.
Hold the cube with the first two layers solved and yellow on top. Grey stickers in the pictures can be any colour except yellow.
Look 1: the yellow cross (3 cases)
| You see | Hold it | Moves |
|---|---|---|
Line | Line left to right | F R U R' U' F' |
L shape | L pointing to the back and left | F U R U' R' F' or, with the L at the front and right: f R U R' U' f' (f = front two layers) |
Dot | Any way | F R U R' U' F' f R U R' U' f' |
Line to cross: F R U R’ U’ F’.
Beginners use F R U R' U' F' for all three (dot → L → line → cross). The L-shape algorithm turns the L straight into a cross, so you skip the line.
Look 2: the corners (7 cases)
Now count the yellow stickers on top and look at where the others face.
Sune: one yellow corner on top. Hold it at the front-left.
Tips
- Learn Sune and anti-Sune first. With just those two you can solve every corner case in up to three goes, so the others are speed-ups.
- Headlights and chameleon (T) look alike. Headlights have two yellow stickers facing the same way on one side. The T case has them on opposite sides.
- Once these feel easy, move on to full OLL one group at a time, and pair it with 2-look PLL.
Questions people ask
How many algorithms are in 2 look OLL?
Ten: three for the yellow cross (or one, used repeatedly) and seven for the corners.
Should I learn 2 look OLL or full OLL first?
2-look first. It is much less to learn, and every full OLL case can be done with it while you learn the rest.
